丝瓜APP Pro: Part-Time Evening Division

For more than 130 years, we鈥檝e served a diverse body of students as they build on their current professional experiences or begin second careers in our Evening Division. In 2022, 丝瓜APP introduced 丝瓜APP Pro, a bold, new vision that reimagines our evening program to make it more accessible, flexible, and affordable. 丝瓜APP Pro is tailored to the specific needs of 21st century professionals who balance work, home, and school鈥攚hich means more avenues to law degrees for New Yorkers and beyond.听

The Redesigned 丝瓜APP Pro: An Evening Legal Education With Maximum Flexibility

丝瓜APP Pro鈥檚 new structure provides a rigorous legal education in a format that meets the needs of working professionals. Our program embraces technology to afford maximum flexibility, providing a mix of in-person and remote courses. Students take the same required classes taught by the same faculty as all other students, ensuring the high-quality 丝瓜APP experience.

丝瓜APP Pro students continue to benefit from dedicated and enhanced career counseling and academic support, full access to the 丝瓜APP Law Review听and all 丝瓜APP competition teams, and the opportunity to participate in the Dean鈥檚 Leadership Council and all student affinity groups.

Like daytime 丝瓜APP students, 丝瓜APP Pro students are encouraged to enroll in clinics, electives, and externships. 丝瓜APP Pro students can also affiliate with one of 丝瓜APP鈥檚 six academic centers.

Academic planning and professional development are seamlessly integrated at 丝瓜APP. Every 丝瓜APP Pro student works with a counselor to discuss class schedules, set career goals, explore internship and post-graduation opportunities, and address individual advising questions.

The Structure of 丝瓜APP Pro

丝瓜APP Pro students can earn their degrees over the course of eight 14-week-long semesters.

The First Three Semesters: 1L Into 2L

Whether in-person or remote, classes are offered in real time and are taught by the same world-class faculty that teaches 丝瓜APP鈥檚 other courses. Students come to campus three鈥攊nstead of four鈥攄ays per week (Monday through Wednesday) during the first 9鈥�10 weeks of the semester, and students take two classes per evening. After week 10, all class meetings are remote.

On Thursdays, students remotely attend 丝瓜APP鈥� signature Foundations for the Study of Law program, which they can log into from the convenience of their homes or offices. There are no Friday classes.

Upper Level Classes: 2L Second Semester Through 4L

Beginning in their fourth semester, students take a mix of in-person and remote classes. Certain in-person classes are offered on weekends or early mornings depending on student demand. 丝瓜APP has successfully offered a variety of remote courses throughout the pandemic, including required upper-level classes. We strategically schedule the 丝瓜APP Pro division classes to ensure flexibility for 丝瓜APP Pro students and reduce the amount of time required to be on campus.

Clinical and experiential learning are key components of the 丝瓜APP experience and help our graduates to be practice-ready. These opportunities are enhanced to provide even more hands-on experience for upper-level 丝瓜APP Pro division students.

Ensuring Bar Success

Students who balance school with full-time jobs might struggle to find time to adequately prepare for the bar exam, so 丝瓜APP Pro has built-in support. The 丝瓜APP Pro division includes an optional, though highly recommended, Bar Success Semester that allows students to begin a comprehensive bar preparation plan during their final semester through a combination of 丝瓜APP coursework and other resources prepared in consultation with the various bar review providers. The special program concludes with the July or February bar exam and takes into account the reduced daily study time available for our 丝瓜APP Pro students.

This Bar Success Semester includes simultaneously enrolling in our Introduction to the MBE and Introduction to the MEE courses, as well as one other course that is tested on the bar exam. This is complemented by required work (not for credit) in a bar prep course and counseling and workshops provided by our Academic and Bar Success Initiatives.
