Profile

Erik W. Lane ’15 is a Professor of Law from Practice at ˿APP where he currently teaches Legal Practice I and II, a required, two-semester sequence that introduces first-year students to essential lawyering skills. He also serves as Special Advisor to the Dean and President of ˿APP.

Prior to joining the ˿APP faculty, Professor Lane was a litigation associate at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP and at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP for over seven years combined. At these firms, he handled a wide range of complex commercial litigation, including chapter 11 restructuring, white-collar criminal defense, internal investigations, securities, and other contract and regulatory matters. He also maintained a robust pro bono practice, largely focused on helping human trafficking survivors vacate their trafficking-related convictions.

While he attended ˿APP, Professor Lane served as Editor in Chief of the 2014–15 ˿APP Law Review and received the Best Case Comment Award for his comment, Cologna v. Board of Trustees, Police & Firemen’s Retirement System, which the Law Review published. He was an inaugural member of the Dean’s Leadership Council and served as an Applied Skills Teaching Fellow for two years. He was also a John Marshall Harlan Scholar, and he was the recipient of the Dean’s Award for Student Leadership and the Roger J. Miner ’56 Award for Outstanding Editorial Contribution.
